In Hemodialysis, blood is allowed to flow out of the patient\u2019s body, a few ounces at a time, through a dialyzer containing a special filter that removes wastes and extra fluids, and then the blood is returned to the body. A therapeutic sterile solution is added to the purified dialysis water that helps filtering the blood. The water used in Hemodialysis is purified in two stages prior to being pumped into the dialyzers to ensure its purity and it being free of any chemical and biological impurity substances.

Each patient is seen by AKBMC consultant nephrologist prior to entering the treatment unit for the dialysis, in order to examine patient\u2019s vital signs, symptoms and laboratory tests necessary for medical care, and to specify each patient\u2019s therapeutic needs. During each treatment session, which lasts several hours, each patient is provided with the necessary medications, depending on each individual need and severity of condition. They are also served a light meal (snack) under the supervision of AKBMC nutrition specialist (dietitian). Each treatment unit contains monitoring devices to follow-up each patient\u2019s vital signs and heart condition before, during and after each dialysis sessions, connected to a monitor at the consultant nephrologist\u2019s clinic to intervene immediately with the required and necessary treatment in the event of any changes in vital signs, or to transfer emergency cases via ambulance to the nearest hospital to be treated by specialists and consultants.
