{"id":3507,"date":"2025-12-18T11:39:05","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/akbmc.com\/?p=3507"},"modified":"2025-12-18T11:41:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:41:47","slug":"expired-drugs-to-take-or-not-to-take","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/akbmc.com\/en\/expired-drugs-to-take-or-not-to-take\/","title":{"rendered":"Expired drugs To take or not to take"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\ud83d\udc8a An Eye-Opening Article \u2014 A Must-Read for Everyone (Not Just Doctors)<br>Before 1979, medicines did not have expiry dates printed on their packaging.<br>This practice began in the United States in 1979.<br>The following insights were shared by Dr. Mohan Sridhar (Florida, USA).<br>\u2753 Do Medicines Really Expire \u2014 or Are We Being Misled by the Pharmaceutical Industry?<br>By: Richard Altschuler<br>Imagine this:<br>A bottle of Tylenol (Paracetamol) says \u201cDo not use after June 1998.\u201d<br>Now it\u2019s August 2002.<br>Should you still take it, or throw it away?<br>Will it harm you?<br>Or will it simply be a little less effective?<br>This question raises a bigger one \u2014<br>When manufacturers print expiry dates, are they truly protecting us,<br>or is it another clever marketing trick to make us buy more medicine unnecessarily?<br>Curious to find out the truth, I began digging through medical databases and research papers.<br>Here\u2019s what I discovered \ud83d\udc47<br>\ud83e\udde0 The Truth About Expiry Dates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The expiry date \u2014 legally required in the U.S. since 1979 \u2014 simply means that the manufacturer guarantees full safety and effectiveness until that date.<br>It does not mean the medicine becomes unsafe or useless afterward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experts agree: Most medicines remain safe and effective long past their expiry date \u2014 even after several years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Studies show that while medicines may lose a bit of potency over time, they rarely become completely ineffective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In many cases, medicines remain up to 90% effective even 10 years after their expiry date.<br>\ud83e\uddea The Biggest Study \u2014 Conducted by the U.S. Military<br>According to The Wall Street Journal (March 29, 2000):<br>The U.S. military once had over $1 billion worth of medicines in stock.<br>By regulation, these had to be discarded every 2\u20133 years \u2014 a massive waste.<br>So the military, in collaboration with the U.S. FDA, began a large-scale testing program to determine the real shelf life of these drugs.<br>They tested over 100 types of medicines \u2014<br>and found that about 90% remained safe and effective for up to 15 years beyond the printed expiry date!<br>Francis Flaherty, the project director, stated:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe expiration date doesn\u2019t mean the drug becomes unstable or dangerous after that time.\u201d<br>\u201cManufacturers use expiry dates more for marketing purposes than for scientific ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Joel Davis, a former FDA official, added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cExcept for a few exceptions \u2014 like Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and some liquid antibiotics \u2014 most medicines are surprisingly long-lasting.\u201d<br>\ud83d\udc8a The Case of Aspirin<br>Bayer tested its own Aspirin that was 4 years past expiry \u2014 and it was still 100% effective!<br>According to Dr. Jens Carstensen, a leading expert on drug stability:<br>\u201cEven after 5 years, Bayer Aspirin was found to be in excellent condition.\u201d<br>\ud83d\udcb0 The Hidden Truth<br>After reading all this, it became clear how the pharmaceutical industry earns billions of dollars every year \u2014<br>simply because people throw away \u201cexpired\u201d medicines that are still perfectly usable.<br>\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f Share the Truth<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Is Expired Medicine Still Safe To Consume?
